100 Years Ago

County Auditor Brody last week received a draft for $10,000 from the state of Idaho and is the state’s share of the cost of the new bridge to be built this summer at Lenia. The cost of the bridge will total about $85,000.

R.H. McCoy, vice-president and general manager of the Bonners Ferry Lumber Company, stated to the Herald that the company’s sawmill will open sometime between March 1st and 15th, but no definitive date is set yet.

The Bonners Ferry High School team suffered defeat at the hands of the Sandpoint basketball team on the Sandpoint floor before the largest crowd assembled in the Sandpoint gymnasium this season. The score was 31-23.

Triumphing over four rounds at the State Wrestling Tournament in Boise, Roland “Toad” Hall brought home the state championship for the 170 pound weight class last weekend.

Youth participation in the new “Untouchables” Car Club here was urged this week by Robert Diller, chairman.

The Bonners Ferry Jaycees honored Art Campbell and Don Morice with awards at their annual banquet Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Doug’s Litehouse.

The Bonners Ferry boys’ basketball team completed a perfect league season by beating Kellogg in the district tournament finals to advance to the state playoffs.

During a meeting Tuesday, the Bonners Ferry City Council approved an ordinance stipulating that a contractor must present his or her registration number to the city before a building permit may be issued.

Recently, Boundary County gave interested people a chance to comment on the proposed comprehensive plan review process. Residents overwhelmingly said that retaining a rural lifestyle and resources are important.
