BRIEF: Free avian flu testing

| July 15, 2021 1:00 AM

FREE Avian Flu Testing, Wednesday, July 21

WHERE: University of Idaho Extension office back parking lot

WHEN: 2pm to 6pm

WHY? Avian flu is a highly communicable disease that can pass quickly from bird to bird, decimating entire flocks very rapidly. It can also be passed on to humans which makes it particularly concerning to deal with. Any birds being entered into the county fair are required to be tested prior to check in. This test can alleviate all fears of infection or spread.

Waterfowl unfortunately can be carriers and not always show symptoms, so they will not be allowed to participate at the fair.

All other poultry such as quail, turkeys, guinea fowl, pigeons, emus etc...are okay to bring for testing and display at the fair.

Veterinarians recommend 30% of your home flock be tested per year, so even if you don't want to enter in open class for the fair, a quick test is always a good idea.
