Cooling center set up for residents
The National Weather Service has forecast near record-setting high temperatures for Friday and Saturday, July 31 and has placed an Excessive Heat Warning in effect through Saturday evening. This replaces the previous Heat Advisory.
High temperatures that will reach the 100’s during the day can be dangerous to anyone who does not have proper hydration or adequate cooling. Also, unusually warm overnight temperatures will make it difficult to control temperatures in homes without air conditioning. Temperatures should start decreasing Sunday and into early next week to near average (80s and low 90s).
In the meantime, Boundary County residents can minimize the impact of the extreme heat by:
Staying hydrated
Dressing appropriately for the heat
Reducing time outdoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., if possible
Checking frequently on the elderly, children, and pets
Seeking air conditioning; do not rely only on fans.
Residents who do not have air conditioning who would like to cool off for a while can go to the designated “cooling center” in the county.
The Hall Mountain Community Church has graciously volunteered their air-conditioned facility and will make someone available to let folks in to benefit from their air conditioning if needed. Contact information: Please call Pastor Bob Boone at 208-946-7062. Location: 1554 Hwy 1. Available Friday after 4 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. — 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
