Nelson Harris
Nelson Harris was born on Feb. 27, 1951, and crossed over at his treasured mountain home on May 26, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Elwood Harris; sister Jackie and brother Jimmy. Nelson is survived by his bride, Cynthia Cunningham; his brother, Lee; daughters Natasha and Stephanie; his granddaughter, Rilie; grandson Jakob; granddaughter Darby; and great-grandkids Annie, Josie and Theo.
He is an Army veteran and served in the 1st Battalion (Mechanized) 10th Infantry.
Nelson lived a productive happy life working as a professional meat cutter and construction. He loved working with wood, built many home add-ons, fishing, playing chess, chopping wood, and doing chores around the house.
Nelson will always be remembered for his amazing bear hugs, his funny dry sense of humor, his kind words and his gentle demeanor.
He will be missed so much by so many. He would always have a joke to make you laugh. When Nelson laughed his whole body and face and eyes lit up. I will always love my Nelson. I shared my life and love for 40 years and treasured every minute. He called me his hippie bride, told me how beautiful I was every day, enjoyed my childish personality, my different way of dress, my uncanny ability to always share the truth, and my long dreads. I loved him for all those traits, to love me for who I am, and love people for who they are. His favorite music was anything Grateful Dead, the Beatles “Let it Be” and “In My Life.”
So, if you want to know Nelson’s heart, he said to me, “I love you more.”
