BRIEF: Boundary Co. SD #101 will not hold summer meal program
Boundary County School District #101 food service director Tammy Schneider announced Tuesday that they will not be participating in the summer meal program this year. "It was not an easy decision to make," she said, but one that was made "due to the lack of employees to run the program and participation from the public."
"The school district website is full of jobs but no one is applying," she added. "Staff is short" and low participation in 2019 has kept them from hiring anyone to work the program through the 2021 summer season.
Schneider said that the program is paid for by participation. "If people don't come out funding decreases and ends up coming out of the school district budget." She expressed dismay over canceling the program saying that in her 30 years with the district this was the first time they'd done so.
"Hopefully we can get it up and running again next year," she said.
