The Bonners Ferry High School Trapshooting Club won The Spokesman-Review Inland Northwest Youth Division competition shoot. They came from behind in the 7th week to win in the 8th week, February 21st over Spangle, WA. by only two birds. (clay targets) 742 to 740. The score was best of 800 targets with 22 teams competing.

The Claybusters also won the Junior Division in the Big Sky-INET competition, which is 25 rounds at 16 yards, plus a handicap of 25 more rounds for a total score. They shot against Thompson Falls, MT, Denton, MT, Yakima Valley, WA and Sandpoint, ID. This is their second year in a row. Individual placings are not out yet, so I will have those next week.

The Claybusters are still competing in the Camas Prairie 10-week competition which ends March 14th.

At last count, the Claybusters were only 10 birds out of 1st place with 24 clubs competing from Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. La Grande, OR has 70 youth shooters and Pomeroy, WA has 50.

Last week we had a great score turned in with Dillon McLeish 25 x 25, Zadok Steffen 24 x 25; both are sub-juniors.

Junior shooters Wade Rice, Ryan Carelli, and Collin Fairchild all had 23 x 25, giving the team a score of 72 x 75. The Camas Prairie rules only count the top three scores.

The Claybusters started competitions on January 3rd and shot in snow, cold, and hard wind every weekend. The coaches couldn’t be more proud of the Claybusters High School team, along with the parents, Bonners Ferry Gun Club Members, and the whole of Boundary County.

Thank you, Del Nelson, for the last snow plowing. Hopefully it was the last. Thanks to Dave Jurgensen for pulling for the club members.

More on the final report on individual scores next week, as well as the Campbell girls taking advantage by shooting out the over-the-hill gang again.

Shoot Safe!
