Registration Open for Baseball and Softball
Spring is nearly upon us — a time to enjoy the sun and warmer weather. With it comes spring and summer activities for local kids. Boundary County Parks and Rec is a big part of that, and now is the time to get your kids signed up for baseball and softball. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as well.
There are two age groups for both sports but the deadline for both is March 27. Registration is $25 and includes a game shirt and hat.
7-8 year olds play from April 13 to May 20 and meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
9-10 year olds play from April 12 to May 21 and meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday, also at 5:30 p.m.
All practices are held at Memorial Field , 7171 Fifth St., across from the tennis courts and next to the skate park. There is also a dropbox for registrations at this location.
Sarah Skinner, Boundary County Parks and Rec youth sports director, said that while there were no participants in 2020 due to the pandemic, there were at least 70 kids involved in baseball and softball in 2019 and she hopes for the same level of participation this year.
The programs are vital to area children, said Skinner, whogrew up in Bonners Ferry and participated in all available Parks and Rec programs, playing at the same facility and field as the kids today.
Volunteers are a vital part of the program, Skinner said.
“The Boundary County Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Program would not be possible without volunteers and sponsors,” she said. “We would like to thank all of our past and present sponsors and volunteers and encourage people in our community to become involved in our program.”
There are various areas in which people can volunteer, from fundraising to coaching and officiating to score keeping and more. But the goal of the program remains the same, Skinner said.
“The goal of our program is to provide safe, fun and positive activities that add value to young minds,” she said.
