100 Years Ago

Harry Dudman, mining broker of Spokane, and well known in Bonners Ferry as president of the Bethlehem Gold Mines, Ltd., was arrested Wednesday in Seattle on a charge of having obtained money under false pretenses. H.J. Leupp, a farmer living near Washtuckna, Washington, swore out the warrant for his arrest.

C. Chaffins, district engineer of the State Highway Department, is expected to arrive in town tomorrow with a party of engineers to locate permanently the state highway across the south bench, from the Peterson Hill into water. Three routes are under consideration for the proposed highway.

Joe Meddock received a very handsome young Black Minorca Cockerel yesterday, which he had shipped from Blair, Neb. It is a beautiful bird and will make an excellent head for Mr. Meddock’s poultry flock.

An order of the Interstate Commerce Commission Review Board would permit Burlington Northern to shut down service on its’ K.V. Line from Bonners Ferry to Porthill on March 30, according to a release from the Idaho Transportation Council.

Bonners Ferry this week boasts two more “golden glovers” after the sub-novice championships last Saturday night at Grotte Hall, Spokane, underwritten by A.A.V. Robbie Pluid, fighting at 55 lb class, and Randy Poulton, an 85lb scrapper, both won golden glove awards.

Cadet James R. Meeker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Meeker, has been named to the Superintendent’s List at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“The mark of a good coach is the ability to put his team in contention year after year,” Bonners Ferry wrestler Adam Hall said, talking about Badger head wrestling Coach Conrad Garner. Garner was named Coach of the Year for 2006, his second time winning the award.

Eighteen of Bonners Ferry’s most outstanding junior girls will be given an opportunity to win scholarship money and prizes in this year’s 40th annual Bonners Ferry Junior Miss Scholarship program.

Boundary County Commissioners on Feb. 21 approved a revised federal grant application for the Kootenai River Walk grant application, adding $20,000 for preliminary engineering costs and environmental reviews.
