Albert L. Brackebusch

On March 8, 2021, Albert L. Brackebusch died peacefully at his home in Bonners Ferry.

Albert was born on June 20, 1931, in Copeland, Idaho. His family had just moved to Idaho to homestead property for the railroad. After graduating from Bonners Ferry High School in 1949, he went to the University of Idaho. He joined the Navy before graduating, and became a Naval Aviator, flying F-2 fighter jets based out of NAS Mayport, Fla. He met Mary Edna Mahoney, and they married Jan. 28, 1956, in Jacksonville, Fla. He deployed on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier later that year.

Albert left the Navy and returned to the University of Idaho, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural chemistry. He went on to Purdue University for graduate studies before being recalled by the Navy. He went on to train pilots for the Vietnam War.

Albert left the Navy in 1969 with the rank of commander, and moved to Bonners Ferry to farm. He eventually farmed his home place and moved to live there in 1993. Albert suffered a serious farming accident in 2011 that left him in great pain.

Albert was very involved with St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bonners Ferry for many years and with Christ Church Anglican in Creston, British Columbia, Canada, more recently.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frieda Brackebusch; and two of his five brothers, Carl and Leonard. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Teresa Uhle (husband Robert); his grandchildren, Stephen Uhle (wife Rebecca) and Timberly Fiskum (husband Jon); and three great-grandchildren, Emma Fiskum, Cooper Uhle, and Harper Uhle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bonners Ferry or Christ Church in Creston.
