Masks help us protect our friends, neighbors
In the March 4, 2021, Bonners Ferry Herald, regarding mask burning, Heather Scott says, "Why should government doctors force us to wear face masks?" The answer is obvious - to help protect others.
The Brants have been in Bonners Ferry since 1887; but, less than 5% of the today's population would recognize the name. We haven't lived to our 90s by not listening to doctors.
At the turn of the 19th century, one of Dr. Frey's first edicts stated that the livery stable on south Main Street had to remove and dispose of their horse manure; then all children attending public schools had to be vaccinated for small pox. When the swimming pool was formed the sign stated, "Don't pee in the pool." Do you see where I'm going? You do things to protect others. It only takes a few seconds to put on and wear a mask. Marge and I always wear ours to restaurants and super markets. Heather says we are "worshiping the alter of government." Wow! That is melodramatic; we thought we were just protecting our neighbors from harm.
Heather further writes, "the so-called pandemic." Over 600,000 Americans have lost their lives to COVID and the number continues to grow. How many of those deaths could have been prevented if their neighbors had worn masks? Heather refers to "God-given rights." People who use the name of
God to condone their actions better be sure they are aligned with God's wishes; otherwise, burning
may be their epitaph.
