Shirley Jane Hamilton, 83

Shirley Jane Hamilton, 83, passed away at her son’s house in Sagle, Idaho, on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Shirley was born on Nov. 11, 1937 in Tamms, Ill., to Clifford and Marguerite Hazelwood. She grew up on the family farm in southern Illinois. She graduated high school in Riverside, Calif., and met Donald Hamilton when he was a Marine stationed in Southern California. They were married in 1956 in Hollywood, Calif., and made their home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Shirley worked as a clerk at Taft’s Variety Store. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, and her flower and vegetable gardens. Shirley enjoyed playing dominoes at the Bonners Ferry Senior Center and bingo at the Sandpoint Senior Center. She was also a member of the Rogue Domino Seniors, who met in secret locations on Thursday nights.

She is survived by her son, Randy (Sally) Hamilton of Sagle; her daughter, Sandra Hamilton of Summerville, S.C., and her son Alan (Vickie) Hamilton of Bonners Ferry; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Joyce) Hazelwood of Fordyce, Ark.; two sisters, Emma Dell Bennett of Tamms, Illinois, and Sammy (Denny) Thompson of St. Louis, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald Hamilton in 1997; grandson Todd Hamilton; companion George Nedelec; and brother Perry Hazelwood.
