PORTHILL — Jake’s Landing and Cedar Ridge Ranch have organized a fundraiser on Saturday, May 22, featuring a smoked pig with all the fixings.

Cedar Ridge Ranch, owned and operated by Ron and Kody Hanner, donated an entire hog for the event and will serve smoked pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans and many desserts for the event.

The Hanners approached Jacobson with the idea for the fundraiser dinner to help keep Jake’s Landing alive because of the importance to Boundary County and Porthill.

“They saw our plight with the border being closed and last month they organized the event,” Jacobson said, “They came to us and said we know you’re hurting and wanted to do something to help.”

Cedar Ridge Ranch saw a need for the community to have a place like Jake's Landing in Porthill and would have been devastated to see the business close, prompting the need to work with the Jacobson family.

The Jacobson family is fully committed to their business. You may even see some of the younger children to the eldest helping each other wait tables, in the kitchen or bussing tables.

“It’s a wonderful community up there in Porthill and it’s been a blessing,” Jacobson said.

The hours will go from noon to late in the evening, with people planning to grab lunch and going in the river to fish or enjoy other outdoor recreation. The event will also feature a bounce house for children, silent auctions and a raffle.

According to Lars, the Hanners only asked Lars and his wife Wendy to help out by mingling with everyone and leaving the majority of work to the Hanners with the help of the Jacobson children.

The Hanners helped to get donations and items to raffle off. In June, the Jacobsons will celebrate two years of operation but worry about annual taxes.

There are presale tickets, or you can purchase the day of the event. All proceeds will help the Jacobson family stay in business as Canada continues to ban nonessential travel.

The announcement that the border closure was pushed again to June 21 and potentially will be pushed again.

Advance tickets are $15, at the door is $18, Kids under 12 are $10

Dinner Includes smoked pork from a local producer, beans, signature slaw, and bread rolls.

“We appreciate the good people of Boundary County and their desire to help their neighbors,” Lars Jacobson said.
