Richard A. Odmark, 79

| May 25, 2021 10:34 AM

Richard A. Odmark peacefully left us on May 6, 2021, in Maple Valley, Wash., with loved ones at his side.

Richard (Dick / Odie) was born in Muskegon, Mich., on July 3, 1941, to Adolph and Elsie Odmark. After graduating from Muskegon High School, he joined the Army, serving from 1964 to 1966 with time spent in Vietnam. When his tour was finished, he returned to Muskegon and eventually moved to Washington state, bringing his mother, Elsie, and brother, Don, with him to be near his older brother Ray.

After completing Computer Programming Training in Tacoma, he worked at Weyerhaeuser and then for Boeing Computer Services, retiring in 1990.

In 1985 he married Carol Davis, and after his retirement in 1990, they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, up Grouse Creek and lived off the grid for eight years. While there, he worked in Bonners Ferry at Bi-Rite Hardware and moved to Bonners Ferry in 1998, where he was a Realtor at Century 21. His most-loved job was his 15 years at Mirror Lake Golf Course, where he had to quit due to health.

In August 2020, Dick and Carol moved to Maple Valley, Wash., to be near family. He loved Idaho and all the friends he made there.

Dick enjoyed hunting with his brother Don, as well as family events, fishing, camping, hiking, mountain drives, and most of all, golfing. He was an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Michigan Wolverines.

His favorite accomplishment was summiting Mount Rainier in 1980 with several of his friends.

Making people laugh was his gift to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie; brothers Ray and Don; and sister Marianne Wilson.

Dick is survived by his wife, Carol; stepson, Theron Davis and wife Jenny; their three children, Maddie and Nate Steenis and Kate Davis; stepdaughter, Carrie Sandoval and her daughter Olivia; several nieces, nephews and their children; many great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.
