In 1974, the Historical Society was offered space in the newly constructed Boundary County Library to open an exhibit space. It was decided the museum would use the basement floor.

To raise money for furnishings, the Historical Society sold raffle tickets for a beef. The museum opened the doors on Sept. 12, 1974 with Mabel Cash as director. Many volunteers helped in the endeavor.

The winning ticket for the beef was purchased by Dora Lavoie.

In 1986, the Boundary County Museum moved to Main Street, and is still housed in the Meqguier-Houck Building.
