If you’re looking for something to do Saturday, May 29, look no farther than the second Boundary Community Cornhole Tournament.

You can participate as a two-man team but the day is sure to be fun for spectators as well. The event will take place at Kootenai River Brewing Company and Riverside Auto Center, both lots being blocked off for the duration.

Competitors should arrive around noon and competition will start at 1 p.m. Board director Dennis Dinning will be emceeing the events and anticipates they will be playing up until 8 p.m., depending on how the competition unfolds.

Dinning made sure to mention that there are still spots available for teams to sign up. There are three categories: social teams, competitive courts and advanced courts. He said they still have room for a number of teams and pointed out that there are cash prizes available for first, second and third place in each category, although there has to be at least one person over age 18 to collect.

Prizes for the social teams are $200, $250 and $75, the competitive courts are $300, $200 and $100, and the advanced courts are offering $500, $400 and $300 purses. Be warned though, the competition will be held rain or shine. Specific scoring and rules will be available for registered teams.

Dinning said that they are partnering with the 7B Baggers Cornhole League out of Sandpoint. They will be using electronic scoring and brackets for the competitive and advanced competitions.

If you want to come watch the festivities there will be plenty to keep you entertained in addition to the competitions. The hospital auxiliary will be selling snacks and beverages, and there will be a DJ playing 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s rock/country rock. Kootenai River Brewing Company will be serving up beer and food. The VFW will attend as a group as well to put on a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in honor of Memorial Day. “Bring a lawn chair,” Dinning added, as there won’t be any specific spectator seating, although there will be restrooms and handwashing stations available.

There will be multiple raffles going on as well. The big raffle item this year is a 1953 A5 Belgium Browning shotgun valued at $2,500. Tickets are $20 each. Smaller raffles will be available for $5 per ticket for a variety of prizes like BBQ supplies, plants, dinners, clothing, golf clubs and more.

The event is being put on by the Fry Healthcare Foundation to benefit the Boundary Community Hospital. They are hoping to raise enough money to replace the emergency room crash carts as well as purchase a new podiatrist table. It’s a fundraiser for a good cause that benefits the entire community.

Dinning also wanted to give a shout out to some of the sponsors of the event who will be represented on a number of the corn hole boards: Super 1 Foods, Kootenai River Inn, Edward Jones and Log Cabin are all major sponsors. Major sponsors also include Boundary Tractor, Les Schwab, Yellowstone Insurance, Boundary Abstract, Mountain West Bank, the VFW, Bonners Ferry Vet Clinic, EL Internet, Helping Hands, Mi Pueblo, and Century 21.
