Wednesday, Oct. 6, marked the last day of the Mirror Lake Ladies Golf’s 2021 golf season, featuring “Flannel Shirt Day” and the “Impossible Open.”

Manager Ralph Lotspeich made the course trickier than usual, with some very long fairway challenges and an elevated tee off Highway 95 down to the Hole No. 7 rough. In contrast to the usual award themes, “Game of the Day” for the Impossible Open was high gross, high net, and high putts. As predicted, the cold weather accentuated the flannel shirt theme as well as the challenging course.

Winners of the Impossible Open and the club champion were announced at the ladies’ end-of-the-year banquet at the Rusty Moose in Bonners Ferry, on Oct. 7. Tara Lee and Gerry Ann Howlett were the club co-champions for low gross, and Gail Thompson was the club champion for the season’s low net. Therese Helmer was 2021 “Ace of Aces.” Game of the Day winners were Linda Collier for high gross, Gerry Ann Howlett for high net, and Karen English and Buzz Thiel who tied for high putts. Other winners included Tara Lee for low gross with 46 and low net with 35. Therese Helmer and Elaine Morgan tied for low putts with 15. Therese and Elaine also had chip-ins on Hole No. 1.

At the end-of-the-year banquet, the ladies enjoyed the wonderful camaraderie from a fun and successful golf season and a scrumptious dinner provided by Jill and staff at the Rusty Moose. Prizes were awarded to all players for the various individual achievements of the year. A big thank you to club president, Carrie Figgins; and club vice president, Anne Bonar, for their good work and good humor in organizing and leading the club this season, to Ruth Ann Wilson, our excellent treasurer; to Therese Helmer, our excellent secretary; to Beverly Comegys for bringing the beautiful sunflower table bouquets to the banquet, and to Ralph Lotspeich and his staff for keeping the Mirror Lake Golf course in wonderful condition all summer, despite the unwelcome heat and smoke that persisted in sticking around. We look forward to all reuniting next spring.
