BONNERS FERRY — Juniors take all at powderpuff football with seniors coming in second, sophomore and freshman trying for third.

Starting off was the freshmen versus the seniors. Family ties were forgotten when the whistle blew when senior Sierra Petesch’s flag was grabbed by her freshman sister Brooke. The seniors were in sync with their coaches and four years of working together paid off. Seniors won 16-0.

Next up was juniors versus the sophomores, though the score may not reflect it was a battle. Mistakes and fumbles were made on both sides, but the sophomores played aggressive with encouragement from their coaches. Juniors dug in for the 20-0 win, earning the right to play the seniors for the championship.

Sophomores went back on the field facing the freshmen. Athletic feats were made from both sides and many yards gained from rushing up the sideline. Asha Abubakari ran the ball down the field for a touchdown. An interception in the last few minutes brought the aggression up with sophomore Kaylee Sumpter being tackled by freshman Ava Fredrickson despite powderpuff being flag football.

Coach Thomas on the freshmen side was ejected due to spiking away the referee’s flag. Sophomore coaches paid off the referee with pocket change but that did not affect the outcome nor was an unfounded penalty called — which the pocket change attempted to pay for. Game tied due to the football team needing the field at 5 p.m. for warmups. Final score 6-6 with no overtime.

For the championship game featuring the juniors versus seniors, the juniors intercepted the ball on the first throw with Mia Blackmore returning the ball for a touchdown. Seniors worked well as a team, but the juniors’ defense kept them off the board. The juniors would go on to win the game, 7-0.
