Wilson for BCSD zone 5
NAPLES — David Wilson of Naples is running for Boundary County School District trustee for the Naples area’s Zone 5.
Wilson and his family moved to Naples 13 years ago from Utah shortly after he and his wife graduated from Utah State University. Wilson graduated as a scientist in environmental studies, with minors in anthropology and recreation resource management.
“I have always had a deep love for my surroundings and a desire to better understand how the process of life and ecosystems work,” Wilson said.
As a teenager his parents took him to Mexico several times to explore several archaeological sites which sparked an interest in learning about physical and cultural anthropology, he said.
He and his wife Mary-Esther have been married for 27 years, and have five children, ranging in age from 3 to 24.
As homeschoolers, having the experience to build and develop their house and raw land was a wonderful opportunity to teach their children hands-on experience, Wilson said. He is a self-proclaimed firm believer in lifelong education with a love for learning.
“Having control over our children's curriculum, gave us the freedom to teach what we knew our kids would gravitate towards, and it also forced us to explore new avenues of education, learning styles, and resources to allow our children to excel,” Wilson said.
He said he is a Christian, a freedom lover, and an advocate of human rights. Wilson said he is appalled at the state of the world and the nation due to the “evil and tyrannical actions of powerful people.”
“Our schools need to be teaching and promoting truth more than ever,” Wilson said.
He said he will vote against Critical Race Theory in the county’s schools as well as will vote against any COVID-19 mandates in any capacity.
He said he has taken the oath of office in the past and will again, if elected to the school board.
“I take the oath very seriously and would strongly “uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, from any and all threats, foreign and domestic," Wilson said. “This is the line I have drawn in the sand, where is yours?”
Naples Fire Station is the voter location for Nov. 2. A candidate forum scheduled for Oct. 26 has been canceled.
