Badgers lose in upset against Timberlake 24-19
BONNERS FERRY — Badger football started off strong against Timberlake and fought to finish their season losing 24-19.
Both teams displayed feats of athleticism with the Badgers leaving everything on the field. The Badger scored first with 1:39 left in the first quarter, when on a third down Quarterback Blake Rice threw for about 63-yard pass and run to No. 7 Charles Henslee. The Badgers led 6-0.
In the second quarter at four and 25 Rice threw to Teigan Banning only to have the ball intercepted by Timberlake’s Raja-nee Olivieri in the end zone. The Badgers answered back with a whole back of Badgers tackling Timberlake’s ball carriers on the following plays. The Badger’s defense held back Timberlake.
After half time, Timberlake answered with a 39-yard pass followed by a 14-yard gain. Timberlake ran the ball in for a touchdown, but a call for delay of game nullified the touchdown.
Badgers held them at the goal line for a play, but at 7:54 left in the 3rd Quarter Timberlake scored 6-6.
Badger possession, Rice received the ball from the onside kick for a 13-yard run. At 2 and 10 Walker Henslee catches a 22-yard pass from Rice for another first down. After a call of holding on the Badgers moved to 1 and 20.
A few plays later Wilson Newell fought for a gain of yards and came off the field holding his head. He sat out the rest of the game due to the hit.
Bollschweiler with a sack caused a 10-year loss for Timberlake on their next possession. No score in the third quarter, score 6-6.
Timberlake took possession, and on second down with a long throw followed by the next play with a 54-yard pass and run for the touchdown by James Billingsley. Eli Richards blocked the field goal attempted. Score 12-6, Badgers down.
Charles Henslee returned the officeside kick for 30 yards and was finally brought down by Timberlake’s kicker. After a 10-yard penalty on second and 21 for the Badgers, Rice ran the ball and fumbled. Timberlake recovered the ball with 8:20 left on the clock.
Timberlake, first down, answered with a 55-yard gain. First and five, No. 44, the Sherman tank of a running back, Billingsley crashed against the Badger defense for a touchdown. With no extra point, the score was 18-6 Timberlake up.
Charles Henslee returned the ball 45 yards. On the third down, Badgers ran the ball to gain 25 yards. 7:20 left, at 1 and 10 Charles Henslee ran the ball 25 yards and was tackled into the end zone, but with a call of holding the Badgers had a 10-yard penalty.
Next possession Henslee caught a 14-yard pass. At three and seven, Tully Reinhardt ran the ball in for a 30-yard touchdown. With 6:34 remaining in the game 18-12 Badgers down.
In a controversial play, Timberlake ran the ball in for another touchdown against cries from the coaches and crowd of a false start. Officials confirmed the touchdown. 24-13 Timberlake with 3:58 left on the clock.
The Badgers fought to move down field but made little ground in four down. No. 58 Travis Petersen clobbered Timberlake's No. 44 Billingsley, stopping Timberlake's advance. With only 45 seconds remaining Timberlake ran down the clock.
Next Badger possession, Rice threw for a 55-yard pass to Charles Henslee with 11.5 seconds left. A rush from Rice got the Badgers to the 40-yard line. The Badger advance finished with a 40-yard complete pass from Rice to Henslee in the last second of the game. Final score 24-19 the Badgers finished their season 4-4,1-2.
Charles Henslee had two touchdowns and seven tackles. Michael Bollschweiler had two sacks. Tully Reinhardt had three tackles.
Timberlake (6-2,3-0 IML) will have a bye into the playoffs this weekend.
