Library board declares trustee vacancy

| October 28, 2021 1:00 AM

Due to the untimely death of Judith Mace on Oct. 3, the Boundary County Library Board has declared a trustee vacancy for Zone 5 at its Oct. 21 meeting.

The board will appoint to fill the vacancy, a person qualified to serve as trustee of the public library district and resides in Zone 5. The person appointed shall serve until the next election of public library district trustees following the appointment, which will be in May 2023. At the 2023 trustee election, a trustee shall be elected to complete the unexpired term of the office which was declared vacant and filled by appointment. The next Zone 5 trustee election will be in May 2025.

Judith Mace exemplified the qualities of an excellent library trustee/public servant, library officials said in a press release.

"She was always willing to give her time and effort even when it was at a significant physical cost to herself during the final weeks of her short but valiant battle with a terminal illness," library officials said.

"She knew the community and its needs so well because she was deeply involved in the community she served, lending a helping hand wherever needed. Her belief in the library as an essential information/educational institution was founded in her own passion as a lifelong learner."

During Mace's almost 20-year tenure as a BCLD trustee, she was always striving to make sure the library continued to be a valuable, relevant resource for all the people of Boundary County — regardless of age, abilities or circumstances.

For more information regarding the position, such as qualifications, trustee responsibilities, and/or a map of the respective library trustee zones which are the same as the school district, please call the library at 208-267-3750 or stop by and ask for Sandy, interim director.
