BONNERS FERRY — On Aug. 25, the Bonners Ferry Police Department hosted active threat incident response training at the Bonners Ferry High School.

BFPD School Resource Officer Jason Trujillo worked closely with Bonner County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Phillip Stella, the Emergency Response Team Commander, to bring Bonner County Sheriffs ERT team members to Bonners Ferry to lead the training.

The training was attended by every officer of the BFPD, several BFPD reserve officers, Boundary County Sheriffs deputies and reserves, members of the Idaho Fish and Game Department and The U.S. Forest Service.

Over the summer months of 2021, BFPD officer Trujillo attended over 40 hours of specialized training in preparation for the coming school year. He then scheduled this training, in coordination with BFHS, just before the school year begins.

As stated in the press release, the purpose is to plan for and ensure the safety of students in Bonners Ferry and Boundary County.

“This was extremely important, very dynamic training, fast paced and high stress,” Bonners Ferry Police Department’s Assistant Chief Marty Ryan stated. “We are very appreciative of the Bonner County Sheriffs Office for their assistance in making this possible.”
