100 Years Ago

At the meeting of the Kootenai Valley Commercial Club, George R. Causton, Sect. and Treas. of the Cynide Gold Mining Co., extended an invitation to Commercial Club members and their wives, to attend a dance at the company’s mines.

This week, J. B. Brody, county clerk received a check for $200 from the firm of McCrea and Merryweather, of Spokane, representing bonding houses, with instructions to pay this sum to the person or persons responsible for the capture of the two bandits who held up and robbed the First State Bank of $8,000.

J. H. Guthrie, a prominent citizen of the Copeland district, states that the owners of bottom lands in the valley are highly incensed over a ruling by the Forestry Dept. where they may not burn brush or drift wood without a permit.

50 Years Ago

Starting this weekend at the Rex Theatre, high school students will be admitted to all evening shows without accompanying parents.

Over 50 children entered this year’s Kiddie Parade Saturday morning, and participated in the main parade. Judging the contest were Bob Pace, Neil Walter, and Dick Mesenbrink.

Trinity Lutheran Church will observe its 60th anniversary Sunday, September 19, with special services.

The National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently awarded Valley View Elementary School a School Health Index Mini Grant for physical activity and nutrition improvement.

At a special board meeting held on Aug. 21, the Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce agreed to donate $150 to the Festival of Trees, board president Jack Douglas said.

The Bonners Ferry High School boys soccer team won two games and lost one, splitting a home-and-home game against Stillwater Christian High School in Kalispell and beating St. Maries on the road.
