Miss Mary Halpin, teacher at the McArthur School, was seriously injured in an auto accident near Vera, Washington. Monday afternoon. She is reported suffering from a badly bruised head, but is expected to recover speedily.

A delegation of prominent citizens of the district south of the Kootenai River, Porthill, were in the city Tuesday to petition the board of county commissioners for the construction of a bridge across Smith Creek.

If the average of the past nine months is maintained the remainder of the year, Boundary County will have a new record for the number of births in a single year.

Contractor Martin Estlund began work this week on concrete sidewalks which will surround the First National Bank property.

The development of a European-type hop industry is well underway in Boundary County as the Boundary Co. Continental Hop Producers , Inc., completed partial polling of 200 acres of the plants and the Boundary County Extension staff has completed harvesting the acre on the Usher Foust farm.

With 17 seconds remaining in the opening league football game Friday evening between Bonners Ferry and St. Maries, star running back Jack Yount kicked a spectacular 25 yard field goal to pull the Badgers ahead of the Lumberjacks 27-26.

Formation of a Boundary Co. Economic Development Corporation might well be underway here soon, according to Chamber of Commerce President Bob Lenker.

A federal judge on Friday banned all snowmobiling within the 175,000 acre caribou recovery area in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service complies with the Endangered Species Act by determining the effect the machines have on the endangered Woodland Caribou.

Bonners Ferry residents have a standing invitation to dress up and enjoy an evening of cocktails, cool music, and fabulous art at Groove Studio starting Oct. 6. The event is called “First Fridays” and it will occur on the first Friday of every month.

Bonners Ferry cross country runner Melody Braden continues to show her confidence this season as she ran away with first place Saturday at the Farragut Invite.
