Steve Fioravanti running for Boundary County commissioner

Elected officials face tough decisions every day, stretching limited resources to deliver the maximum of services to the community.

“Where I see the need for change is in our ability to think outside the box,” Steve Fioravanti said in announcing his bid for the District 2 county commission seat. “Implementing new and creative ideas to counter negative economic trends will be the key to our prosperity going forward.”

Fioravanti said he decided to run because of the community’s welcoming nature.

“I grew up in a small town which exhibited the same spirit and instilled in me a great pride and appreciation for a close-knit community,” he said.

Fioravanti said he wants to create more opportunities for people like his children, two of whom graduated from Bonners Ferry High School.

“Free enterprise and an entrepreneurial spirit are the backbone of a strong economy,” he added. “I will work to create more opportunities for our young adults to be able to earn a decent living, buy an affordable home and raise their families right here in Boundary County.”

Idaho is blessed with an abundance of natural resources. However, finding ways to better manage the community’s resources on a local level, and reap the rewards locally, is necessary and can only benefit the area, Fioravanti said.

“We can do this without changing the rural character and culture of our county, he added. “This could be a viable solution for revenue sources as we seek ways towards lowering our rapidly escalating property taxes.”

Fioravanti said there needs to be more transparency in local government as well as more community engagement.

“Nobody has all the answers and everyone has something to offer,” he said. “I strive to understand another person’s point of view. I may not agree with them, but it helps me to understand where they are coming from. Our citizens should gather, listen to each other, debate, and work towards resolving key issues. We can do this with civility and respect for each other.”

If elected, his goal as commissioner would be to ensure the county government adheres to its proper role which is to protect life, liberty and property. He said he would oppose any act he sees as unconstitutional, such as to get vaccination or wear masks. Those decisions should be left to individuals, he said.

Fioravanti said his experience working in the private sector will serve him in his role as commissioner if elected. Working with department heads in all capacities in running companies helped me to develop strong project management skills.

“I believe that public service is to serve the people,” Fioravanti said. “We are facing very difficult times ahead. I will work diligently to maintain the rural character of our county. I will promote the safety and welfare of our citizens. I will ensure that our voice is heard, and that we are properly represented at the local, state and federal levels. My promise is to keep Boundary County the beautiful place that it is.”
