Badger sports moved into season play week with softball and baseball playing doubleheaders against Priest River on Wednesday night. At press time results have not been received.

Softball went 0-8 in non-league play and gained much needed experience for the regular season. On April 5, the Badgers played Lincoln County, the game results have not been reported.

“The girls have grown so much in a short amount of time,” head coach Kassy Skeen said. “We are still growing and learning, but just to see where we started to where we are at now, I couldn't be happier.”

Skeen said that players have grown in their individual skills and how they play as a team.

“I have seen a more solidified foundation for the girls to build upon, we still need some work, but again, they have already grown so much,” she said. “I know I can trust any one of my players to play in the field and run the bases, and they have an understanding and capability to succeed in the given position.”

April 9, the Badger softball went up against Thompson Falls, Mont., and fell to the Blue Hawks, 18-8. The Badgers came back strong in the fifth inning scoring five runs, but couldn’t catch the lead after the Blue Hawks scored seven and eight runs in the third and fourth innings.

Skeen said this was a standout game for the Badgers.

“Our offense was the strongest it has been based on the number of hits we got, strategic base running moves and just an overall energetic feel. Our defense was also something to be noted based upon us turning two double plays,” she said.

There were some great stops and smart plays made against Thompson Falls.

“Despite losing, our heads were held high at how far we have come, which speaks on the team's mental growth as well,” Skeen said.

The Badgers head into league play this week. Skeen said going into league play the team will be focusing on more specific scenarios to review based upon the teams they will be playing.

“I am looking forward to league and to see this team continue to grow. We've got some tough competition in our league, but I am just excited to see the drive and dedication of these girls continue on,” she said.

Priest River varsity softball is 0-5 in non league play. Softball will be off to play Kellogg on Saturday. Baseball will play Timberlake on Saturday.
