Badgers and Spartans combine for 99 runs DH, Sandpoint takes first season win against Badgers

BONNERS FERRY — Badgers went 1-1 against Priest River in a double header that featured a combined 99 runs and with both games being called due to the 10-run rule.

The Badgers beat the Spartans in the first game, 27-17. The Spartans came back and defeated Bonners Ferry in a shootout 32-23.

Bonners Ferry began to pour it on in Game 1, scoring 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless inning from the Spartans, the Badgers added seven runs to their lead, 20-1.

At the top of the third the Spartans held back the 10-run rule by taking advantage of errors at home plate. Priest River stole home six times racking up runs and finished by scoring a total of nine runs during the top of the inning. That cut Bonners Ferry’s lead to 10.

Game 1 finished in the bottom of the fifth inning once Badgers regained a 10-run lead.

In Game 2, Bonners Ferry held the 8-4 advantage. However, Priest River opened up the floodgates in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring 10 and 18 runs respectively.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans held a 32-17 advantage. The Badgers then went on a rally to cut the lead to 32-23 before the game was ultimately called.

The Badgers are 1-1 in league play and 1-9 overall.

SANDPOINT — The Badgers gave the Sandpoint Bulldogs their first win, losing 28-5.

Sandpoint wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, putting up six runs in the first inning.

Kivia Barlow took over on the mound for Cresanna Authier in the top of the third. The Badgers scored five runs once Barlow took over. Sandpoint opened up the floodgates in the bottom of the third inning with 14 runs to take a 21-5 lead.

The game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule as the Bulldogs took the win finishing 28-5.

The Badgers play IML foe Kellogg in a double header at home on Saturday, April 16 at 1p.m. and 3 p.m. Kellogg is 0-10 overall and fell to Timberlake in a double header April 13.

The Badgers will play Timberlake on Tuesday, April 19 at Timberlake.
