BONNERS FERRY — After a double-digit blowout against Priest River, the Badgers fell short of beating the Wildcats in a double header April 16.

The double header was scheduled to take place in Kellogg, but due to weather, the venue changed to Bonners Ferry.

With the first game tied 1-1 at the end of the third inning, the Badgers came out strong in the fourth, scoring four runs and led the Wildcats 5-2 in the fifth.

The Wildcats had a whopper sixth inning, scoring nine runs before it was through. Each inning ended with only one team scoring per inning. The Badgers had another strong inning in the seventh, scoring six runs and finishing only one run behind the Wildcats.

Bonners Ferry (5-9, 2-2) had tied it with six runs in the bottom of the seventh, started with a three-run double by Roger Naylor and sacrifice flies from Trey Bateman and Blake Rice to tie the game.

Kellogg finished the game scoring two runs to take the win 13-11.

In game two, the Badgers were tied with the Wildcats in the fifth inning making it 2-2, but the Wildcats came back in the fifth to score nine runs. The Badgers fought back, scoring a total of six runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings, but it was not enough to chip away at the deficit. Kellogg took the win 15-8.

Head coach Tom Turpin said Kellogg came to play and played hard.

“They improved a lot from last year and came to win,” he said. “My hats off to them.”

Missed opportunities prevented the Badgers from coming back in the first game, he said.
