Baseball allows the Spartans only one run
PRIEST RIVER — The Badgers only allowed the Spartans one run in a double header April 23 as Bonners Ferry defeated their Intermountain League foe 37-1, 10-0.
The Badgers started out strong in Game 1 with a 16-run lead in the first inning, 12 of which were gained by taking advantage of errors by the Spartans. In the third inning, the Badgers held a 24-run lead and in the fourth inning brought another 12 runners in, making it 36-0. The game ended with a Badger win, 37-1.
Priest River (2-12, 0-8) pitchers walked nine and hit 13 batters in the first game. Everett Hannah struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings in the second game.
Trey Bateman and Roger Naylor teamed on a one-hitter in the opener, and Tiegan Banning fanned eight in a one-hitter in the nightcap.
In the first game, Banning doubled and tripled and went 4-for-6 with four RBIs and four runs scored for Bonners Ferry (8-10, 5-3). Trey Bateman was 3-for-6 with four RBIs and four runs scored for the Badgers, and Blake Rice doubled and drove in four runs. Naylor and Bo Bateman each drove in four runs.
In game two, the Badgers kept the Spartans scoreless. The Badgers took the win with 10 runs.
In the second game, Rice went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.
