Upcoming free mushroom class
Interested in learning how to safely forage for wild mushrooms in North Idaho? The Kootenai River Mushroom Club presents this free class on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Ktunaxa Room at the Kootenai River Inn and Casino. Art Church, a local mushroom expert, will present on how to safely identify edible mushrooms that can be found in North Idaho — approximately 40 different kinds have been identified.
Portions of a DVD by expert Taylor Lockwood, "The Good, the Bad, and the Deadly: Knowing the Poisonous Mushrooms for Mushroom Hunters, Chefs, Parents, Pet Owners & Medical Professionals," will be shown and discussed. A list of resources for identifying wild mushrooms will be provided.
This class is a prerequisite to participation in a foraging outing with the Kootenai River Mushroom Club. This club provides educational gatherings throughout the year, including foraging trips during mushroom season. Membership is $25 per year for individuals and $35 per year for families.
