Jean Lenore (Ling) Dunning

Jean Lenore (Ling) Dunning passed away peacefully on May 27, 2022 at the Community Restorium in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Jean was born in Havre, Montana on July 28, 1930, to Marcus and Marie Ling. Jean was an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine/Sioux tribe in Northeastern Montana.

Jean completed her education at the end of eighth grade in order to help in the family-owned store in Porthill, Idaho. Some of Jean’s fondest memories are of Porthill. (She is pictured here across the road from the old store with the Kootenai River behind her.)

Jean married Donald (DD) Dunning on October 1, 1948. They had five children: Mark (Laureen), Terri Dunning, Chris Jensen (Tony), Don (Stacey), Patty Dunning-Luedecke (James).

Jean was a perfectionist and excelled in many skills. She enjoyed swimming, ice skating, bowling, shuffleboard and golf. Jean liked to crochet, loved canning and was an excellent cook. Her most talented skill was gardening and she could have been considered a master gardener. Jean also loved to have visitors and never ran out of interesting stories to tell.

Jean was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, a sister and a niece.

Jean is survived by her five children, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorial donations or contributions be made to the Community Action Partnership, Boundary County Food Bank or Second Chance Animal Shelter.
