KELLOGG — Marcus Regrehr (160) won the George Wild wrestling tournament on Dec. 10, with Badger Boys wrestling finishing 11th overall.

Regrehr added excitement to his matches and the gym with his freestyle/Greco style of wrestling, as he dominated his weight class and finished in first, said head coach Kevin Campbell.

“Marcus has been wrestling at a high level for a long time. He is healthy and looking tough. We (the coaches) expect him to be our leader this year,” he said.

Brandon Williams (113), last year state placer, finished third for the Badgers.

Last year, Williams wrestled in the 98-pound weight class and is adjusting to the higher weight.

“That is a difficult adjustment for a lot of kids. He is making progress and looks good. We expect big things out of him,” Campbell said.

The rest of the Badger team wrestled hard and won many matches, but fell short of placing. The team is heavy with freshmen.

Campbell said the young wrestlers looked good at the tournament.

“We are pretty inexperienced, but they are coachable, working hard and learning. As a staff, we are very pleased with what we saw out of the Badgers last weekend,” he said.

Badgers boys wrestling finished 11th out of 16 boys teams and 30 teams overall.

Four Badgers will compete at the Tri-State tournament Friday and Saturday in Coeur d’Alene at North Idaho College. The remainder of the program will compete at the Buzzy Lucy Tournament in Eureka, Mont.
