Badgers crush Pirates, ranked second in state
BONNERS FERRY — Coming off a high-tempo win at Sandpoint, the Badgers kept up the pace Dec. 16 against the Roger Pirates from Spokane, winning 82-50.
“Physical football type kids that hit the boards that were athletic, [we] knew that coming in,” said Bonners Ferry head coach Nathan Williams. “We attempted more free-throws then in the past.”
The Pirates were also strong at the three-point line with Tavainc Trammdl dropping four deep three-points.
Five Badgers scored double digits, with Asher Williams leading the team with 18 points.
The Badgers utilized the charge and took one of the first Rogers’ possessions. The Badgers took seven charges and put the Pirates in foul trouble.
The Badgers goal for the season is to hold every team to 50 points, Williams said.
“At half they were at 33 and were paced to make 66, but then we held them to nine and eight points in the second half,” he said.
Maxpreps.com has the Badgers ranked first in Idaho’s 3A division and seventh in Idaho.
“People are finally starting to take notice of our depth [as a program] and who we are,” Williams said.
Williams was not satisfied with the turnovers.
“We need to get better, we had 24 turnovers against Sandpoint,” he said. “We are trying to push the ball and take better care of it.”
Badgers will be working on ball handling under defensive pressure.
“We need to practice our defense and take charges,” he said.
The Badgers remain undefeated at 5-0.
