TRI-STATE INVITATIONAL: Williams and Regehr compete
COEUR d’ALENE — Two Badger wrestlers competed at the Tri-State invitational wrestling tournament, held Dec. 16-17 at North Idaho College.
Brandon Williams (113) and Marcus Regehr (152) represented Bonners Ferry at the tournament.
“Tri-State is tough, but I like to take the kids there so they can wrestle against some of the best kids in the Northwest,” head coach Kevin Campbell told the Herald. “Placing [at Tri-State] is a big deal.”
Regehr had 50 wrestlers in his weight bracket and was one match away from placing.
“We call that the blood round,” Campbell said. “There were at least four state champions in the 152 bracket.”
Regehr lost to a 4A state champion in the quarterfinals and had to battle his way back through the consolation round. He scored 12 team points.
Brandon Williams, 113 (6-4) scored 6.5 team points, his place is unknown. He went 2-2.
Campbell said it was a good record for Tri-State.
