BONNERS FERRY — A Boundary County man charged with arson failed to appear for drug testing as part of a release agreement, according to local law enforcement.

Michael Franklin Mock, 30, of Boundary County is being charged with two counts of arson in connection to a fire at the Boundary County Fairgrounds, as well as a structure fire from September.

Mock was arrested Sept. 12 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds after he allegedly set fire to a yurt that housed two sleeping U.S. Forest Service firefighters supporting the efforts of the Kootenai River Complex fires. No one was harmed.

On Dec. 15 Mock’s defense attorney J. Lynn Brooks requested his release due to being in jail for 95 days. Brooks said since Mock is a local resident, he is not a flight risk and was already stipulated to undergo drug testing two times a week at the Boundary County Jail.

On Dec. 22, Mock failed to report to the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office for drug testing as part of his bond conditions for release on his own recognition.

On Dec. 27, County Prosecutor Andrakay Pluid requested a bench warrant due to failure to comply with terms of conditional release.

Mock’s preliminary hearing was waived and the case has moved to district court due to probable cause being established in the case, according to court records.
