Seniors and State champs honored
BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers’ seniors, state champs and the 2021 girl’s state golf team were recognized at the Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 home games.
Senior Morgan Burt was in attendance with her family who formed her name with their T-shirts. Her other sports and hobbies include; soccer, track, sleeping and being late. Her plan after high school is to be a PE teacher and coach sports. Her favorite sports memory was going to state. Her advice to future players, stay positive, it’s a long season.
Ever since she came up on varsity, she has been the team’s loudest cheerleader, Head Coach Travis Hinthorn said.
“She is always positive on the bench and very committed. She’s a huge part of our program and we’ll miss her,” he said.
Senior Ethan Hubbard and his family were honored as well. Hubbard's sports include skiing, flying, riding his motorcycle and farming. His plans after high school include attending Utah Valley University, majoring in mechanical engineering and continuing with his flying and gaining a commercial pilot's license.
His favorite sports memory was beating Kellogg last year in overtime with four Badgers players against five Wildcats and beating Weiser in the state play-in game. Making it to state basketball with his team is also his most proud accomplishment.
His advice to future players is, anything you want requires effort. Effort is essential in achieving your goals.
Head boys basketball coach Nathan Williams said, “Ethan’s a great kid. He works very hard and loves basketball. I’m really proud of his effort and dedication throughout the years. He is coachable […] I love that kid and we will miss him next year.”
The 2021 girls golf state team was recognized, as well as they made history last year by winning the 3A state championship. Braylyn Bayer placed third, Avery Bayer placed fourth, Cali Iacolucci placed in the top 10 and Mai and Lily Blackmore improved their scores on day two of competition, helping the Badgers win it all.
Charles Henslee was the 3A State Champion for the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:27.28. After districts, he improved his time by 12 seconds.
Hinthorn, who is also the track and field coach, said that they are looking forward to a couple more years with Henslee on the team.
Eli Richards was the 3A 170 State Champion in wrestling. This year Richards is 29-3 and won the North Idaho Rumble.
“His high school record is 132 wins and 36 loses. That is huge,” said Head Coach Kevin Campbell.
