Valley View Elementary closure

| February 10, 2022 1:00 AM

Jan. 26 and 27 Valley View Elementary was closed due to staff shortages.

Boundary County School District Superintendent Jan Bayer said that this decision was made when Valley View had a student absenteeism rate of 26 percent and a staff absenteeism rate of 25 percent.

“If subs are available we will continue to run. In this particular case we were pulling our paraprofessionals from multiple programs, the principal, finding as many substitutes as possible, and still not being able to cover our classrooms and duties,” Bayer said. “We have an amazing principal and staff at Valley View that worked tirelessly for 1.5 weeks to cover different positions, but we were at a breaking point.”

The reality is that there are increasing cases of COVID-19, Influenza A and other illnesses throughout our community. BCSD schools will continue to operate as long as we can safely do so with the staff available, Bayer said.

“We thank the community for the support, students for working on their homework assignments, and parents/guardians for understanding,” she said.
