Badger girls basketball finish season
SPIRIT LAKE — Badger girls basketball fell to Timberlake for the play-in game to state by a last second three-pointer Wednesday, Feb. 9.
Timberlake’s McKennah Kronenberg of Timberlake hit a deep three pointer with 1.4 seconds left, sending the Tigers past the Bonners Ferry Badgers 53-50 in the 3A District 1 second-place game.
“What a great game,” said head coach Travis Hinthorn. “I think the largest point spread was six points. We were playing well at the end of the season and gave ourselves a chance to win.”
Sophomore, Asha Abubakari led the Badgers with 24 points and 15 rebounds.
“Asha had to work hard for all of those! Timberlake does a good job of denying her and swarming her when she gets the ball,” he said.
Mia Blackmore added 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
“Mia has been solid for us all season,” Hinthorn said.
Braylyn Bayer scored 8 points and Markynn Pluid scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Avery Bayer had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and took 3 charges.
“Avery just sacrificed her body. Taking 3 charges in a girls game is almost unheard of,” he said.
Bonners Ferry finished the season 10-12.
