Thompson announces for 1A House seat

| February 17, 2022 1:00 AM

Travis Thompson has announced his plans to run as a Republican for the open Idaho House of Representatives, District Seat 1A.

Heather Scott currently holds the seat but lives outside the new boundaries for District 1. As a result, the seat is an open seat in the spring primary election scheduled for May 17.

Over the years, Thompson said he has volunteered countless hours serving the community, from serving on the Farm Bureau Board to helping the Foundation for Wildlife Management with their predator management goals. He also has stood on a flag line as a Patriot Guard rider.

"I've [worked] in Boise during the legislative session to help support bills that have an impact on our community and working one-on-one with community members who need help navigating the government process," he said in saying why he chose to run for the seat. "I have enjoyed this immensely."

Thompson was born and raised in Bonner County. It also is where his three young adult children were born and raised.

"It has been my true joy to be part of their journey to the young adults they are now," he said.

Thompson started a general contracting company in Bonner County in 1994. The business continues to specialize in design-build general contract construction.

"I complete our projects according to the standards that have been established and are applicable to the work," he said. "I will carry this same motto to the state Legislature where the standard is the U.S. and Idaho state constitutions along with the Bill of Rights."
