BONNERS FERRY — In a non-league contest, the Badgers nipped at the Hawks’ heels the entire game but ultimately fell to Lakeland 36-56.

The first four minutes of the game were scoreless as both teams worked into a groove. The Hawks used their full court press to get in the heads of the young Badgers and took every opportunity to pressure and even steal the ball.

While the Badgers had a number of good looks to the basket on fast breaks, they lacked execution and allowed the Hawks to outscore them in the first quarter.

The Badgers tailed at the half 19-27. The Badgers scored two back-to-back bakers, one by Braylyn Bayer, but the Badgers were unable to outscore the Hawks.

Asha Abubakari was the top scoring for the Badgers with 12 points.

The Badgers were scheduled to face Priest River on Friday, but the game has been canceled. Last time the Badgers and Spartans met, the Badgers won 63-18 and held Priest River to only six points per quarter.
