Albert 'Al' Bailey, 90

Albert “Al” Bailey, 90, former Bonners Ferry resident, passed away Jan. 20, 2022, in Madras, Ore.

He was born on Oct. 20, 1931, in Westport, Ore., to Enid and Ivan Bailey. Al grew up in Coos Bay, Ore., and graduated from Marshfield High School, where he played football and basketball. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 and attained the rank of aviation electronics technician, third class.

Afterward, he attended the Oregon Institute of Technology to further his education in electronics. Upon graduating from OIT, he worked briefly as an assistant engineer at the newly opened KTWO Television in Casper, Wyo., before being hired by the Federal Aviation Agency. Al worked for the FAA for 25 years as an electronic technician at airports in Thermopolis and Worland, Wyo., and Pocatello, Idaho. He retired from federal service in 1983.

Al was an avid fly fisherman who tied his own flies and fished rivers and lakes all over the Pacific Northwest, western Canada and Alaska.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne; children Deborah Davis and Scott (Tara) Bailey; grandchildren Jason (Danaya) Davis, Adam (Lindsey) Davis, Jack (Stephanie) Davis, Kestrel Bailey and Sage Bailey; great-grandson Gunnar Davis; and sisters Mary Speece and Anita Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kellie Davis and sister Virginia Hastie.
