Seniors look to the future
BONNERS FERRY — Excited and well dressed Bonners Ferry High School seniors presented their senior projects to the community members and professionals last week.
Before the big presentation on Jan. 20, teacher and project overseer Paul Bonnell reminded students that the project is not all about the presentation.
“You are on a life journey. It’s just one more thing on that journey,” he said.
This year, students were able to include job experience in their projects. Students like Connor Alexander explained to judges that working in a local restaurant gave them real life experiences in the workforce.
“I now have a bunch of friends that are 30,” Alexander said.
Alexander brought back the Flapjack Jamboree fun run for his project. The funds went to the food bank. He knew that he did not want to organize sporting events professionally, but since running is such a passion in his life, he would continue helping out with fun runs in the future.
Lexie Maas interviewed several different professionals from a former military officer to an FBI agent to a teacher. She wanted to learn different education routes she could pursue. Maas also started her own odd jobs service which she hopes to continue once she goes to college. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, but like many students this project was a way for them to learn what they don’t want to do for a living.
After the presentations many seniors took a deep breath, saying they knew they had accomplished something and are looking forward to graduation with a little bit more direction than before.
