Man charged with grand theft to be sentenced in August
McARTHUR — A Boundary County man is being charged with grand theft after a burglary investigation by the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office.
Dylan C. Longstreet, 44, is being charged in connection with thefts in September near Kapu Road.
On Sept. 4, 2021, Boundary County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a homeowner at Kapu Road being harassed and that there was a threat of a robbery about to take place. When BCSO officials arrived, they saw Longstreet run away, court documents said.
At the time, Longstreet had an active warrant from Bonner County.
On Sept. 9, 2021, dispatch was advised that another resident near Kapu Road was in danger on her property. Officers responded and saw a male run from the house and into the woods. The resident identified the man as Longstreet, according to the records.
BCSO Detective Caleb Watts followed up on Sept. 14 and returned to the Kapu residence. “It was apparent someone had gone through the house taking items,” he wrote in an affidavit.
Court documents said BCSO officials followed the tire tracks from the residence down Stormy Lane to about 100 yards and found a 1995 Toyota pickup parked in the trees. It was registered to Longstreet.
Dispatch called the property owner and was provided a list of missing items. One item was a black Honda Rancher four-wheeler, which the owner said should have been in the garage.
The second property owner told law enforcement that she had seen Longstreet with a black four-wheeler on her property.
On Sept. 15, Detective Watts noticed the keychain on Longstreet’s truck key along with others. Court documents said that one of the keys opened the gate to the residence at Kapu Road.
BCSO officials said they recovered 79 items, including a vehicle, ATV, electronics, jewelry, gold and silver, a rifle and more.
On June 24, Longstreet changed his plea to guilty on the charge of grand theft. Sentencing is set for Aug. 8.
