Nancy Ruth Ashburn Tucker, 91, a resident of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died at her home on the morning of Saturday, July 16, 2022. She was born on May 14, 1931, the oldest of four girls to Jim and Katie Bell Hodges Ashburn in Stanford, Texas.

Nancy went to school at Shallowater, Texas, and was involved in many sports such as basketball, softball, tennis and track. Graduating in 1949, she married Wayne Tucker in 1950 and they lived in Shallowater, Texas, where Wayne managed a lumberyard. There their first son, Jimmy Wayne was born in 1953. In 1955, they moved to Idaho along with all the Jim Ashburn family. They lived on a wheat farm and soon their second son, Aubrey Dan was born in 1957, their first daughter Kathy was born in 1959 and, in 1962, their daughter Sally Jane was born.

This was a busy household and in 1965 the Tucker family was busy building a new home on the edge of Bonners Ferry. Nancy enjoyed being part of the County Extension Club and traveling to southern Idaho for conventions. Learning how to be the best homemaker was very important to Nancy. After the family was raised and out of the house, she went to Spokane Community College and studied horticulture and floral design in 1980. She came back to Bonners Ferry and opened “Nancy’s Plants and Flowers.” The main street shop stayed open until 1984 when she retired. Later, she worked in other flower shops and enjoyed wedding work and so forth. Nancy enjoyed working with young people and was a leader of Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts and 4-H Club and Bible School.

Later, Nancy had the privilege of taking care of her two grandsons and still later her two great-granddaughters. Nancy was always ready for a round of golf and belonged to the Mirror Lake Ladies Golf League for many years.

Nancy is survived by her children, Jimmy Wayne, Aubrey Dan, Kathy and Sally Jane, all of Bonners Ferry; along with 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Jim Wages and Margie Bishop. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne Tucker and a sister, Sarah Winkleseth.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, in the Bonners Ferry First Baptist Church. Private interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery.
