Rickter goes 5-3 for Team Idaho at Junior Nationals Duals

TULSA — Bonners Ferry wrestler Savannah Rickter competed for Team Idaho June 15-17 at the 2022 Junior Nationals Duals.

Rickter finished 5-3 in Tulsa. Team Idaho includes 13 girls with one in each weight class. Team Idaho finished 6-2, taking seventh.

She told the Bonners Ferry Herald that the competition was a lot of fun and that she has made friends all around the state. Though a national competition may be daunting to some, Rickter said she has become used to the crowds and large competitions due to all the invites and duals she has competed in.

Among the many lessons she’s learned at national duals is that she is a social person and that there are many things she needs to work on when it comes to wrestling.

For the Team Idaho competitions, Rickter trains with different coaches who are unfamiliar with her wrestling style or her approach to the sport. Because the approach was different, that gave her a different perspective and will only make her a better wrestler.

Rickter had the option to be on Team Idaho a few years ago, but didn’t take the opportunity. However, after seeing her brother, Jackson, compete for the state team at the national level, he blazed the trail for her to pursue this level of competition.

She said she would like to thank the community for giving her the opportunity to work to raise funds for these competitions.

“These trips are expensive and it is only through the support of the community that BFWC members are able to compete,” Rickter said.
