From the Archives for March 3, 2022

| March 3, 2022 1:00 AM

Idaho Day was established in 2014 by the Idaho Legislature to commemorate the creation of the Idaho Territory by President Abraham Lincoln on March 4, 1863. Idaho Day is designed to inspire Idahoans across the Gem State to celebrate Idaho and its history.

This year’s theme is “Mining Idaho,” endeavoring to promote this incredible place we all love to call home. Over the next weeks, the Boundary County Historical Society & Museum will be featuring in “From the Archives,” historical photos and artifacts with bits of information about them, illustrating the many ‘mines’ in Boundary County.

The mine in this photograph was first located by Zackary T. Parker and Veat Gudbaur on May 16, 1914. Parker filed a claim on July 6, 1914 with Gudbaur as witness. It was filed under the name Dora. The first shaft was called No. 1 Dora Tunnel. Several other claims were filed nearby: the Dora Extension, the Mable 2, and the Mabel 3.

The Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, sponsors this column.
