100 Years Ago

The graduating class at BFHS is the largest in history with 18 seniors in the class.

Local authorities returned from Boise with promises of $40,000 for the Roosevelt Highway and $95 for the Bonners Ferry to Eastport highway.

The Up-To-Date Shoe Shop in Bonners Ferry is now manufacturing Shorty’s Shoe Grease which has been found to be superior in keeping out the water.

Valley View Blue Devils emerged the victors of the weekends 24th annual American Legion Invitational Grade School Tournament held at the BFHS gymnasium. They defeated the Naples Wolverines in the championship game, 38-25.

Bill Maas made his annual trip to the Herald with the year’s first buttercups.

Work continues this week on the city bypass project. Crews from Degerstron Construction Company are ripping out the old abutment on the south end of the Bonners Ferry bridge in preparations of further expansion and connecting with the new road.

Many persons have asked that the Community Chorus be started again, according to Earl Erickson. With that in mind, the first rehearsal will be held Thursday, March 9 at 9 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Erickson will serve as director.

Due to the highly motivated team members from BFHS, Basco reacted well to the skills exhibited by the Alpha + members at the 2007 FIRST Robotics Competition Pacific Northwest Regional.

Miquel Mendez came off the bench and scored two baskets in six seconds with a layup, then a steal and a runner off the glass to give added confidence to a team that doesn’t need much anymore. Bonners Ferry went on to cruise to a 67-56 victory over South Fremont on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 3A state boys basketball tournament at Meridian High School.
