Badgers win big, will play Kellogg in district opener

KELLOGG — The Badgers beat the Wildcats in a double header scoring 12-10 and 3-0 respectively on May 3.

In the first game, the Badgers were down by one run in the first inning, but came back hot with five more runs in the second. Kellogg managed six runs in the third, but couldn’t keep up the tempo as the game continued.

In Game Two, the Badgers kept the Wildcats scoreless in the nightcap. The Badgers won 3-0 and were guaranteed to host the district opener against Kellogg on Monday, May 9.

Kellogg could have wrapped up the second seed to districts with a split, but with the Badgers sweeping they will play again in Bonners Ferry May 9 at 4 p.m.

Winner advances to the Championship game on Wednesday, May 11 at a higher seed location.

Badger baseball is 11-11 overall, 8-4 in league and ranked second in the IML.

Timberlake snags top seed in nightcap after battle of the pitchers

BONNERS FERRY — Game 1 of the Badger and Tiger matchup was a battle between pitchers with Trey Bateman striking out nine, giving up three hits, zero runs and totaling 114 pitches.

Timberlake’s Caden Robinetter struck out 14, giving three hits in six innings and totaling 81 pitches.

Trey Bateman pitched 6 2/3 innings due to hitting the limit of pitches allowed.

Teigan Banning came in as pitcher with two outs in the sixth inning with runners on first and third. He pitched six pitches striking out the last Tigers batter.

In the first game, the Badgers beat Timberlake 1-0 with two outs, as Bo Bateman scored a run off a balk, or an illegal motion by the pitcher, in the bottom of the sixth inning. When a balk takes place runners are awarded the next base, since Bo Bateman was on third, he advanced to home plate, scoring a run.

The Badgers went 1-1 against the Timberlake Tigers on April 30.

Due to the limit of pitches allowed, Trey Bateman would have to wait three days to pitch again. Banning took the mound in the second game.

In Game 2, the visiting Timberlake Tigers took advantage of 10 walks and six players being hit by pitches in a 9-4 win over Bonners Ferry the nightcap to split in Intermountain League play on Saturday, giving Timberlake the top seed to the 3A District 1 tournament for the first time since the 2019 season.

A loss by Kellogg to Bonners will give Timberlake the outright league title.
