Fioravanti, Robertson win GOP nod for commissioners
BONNERS FERRY — Both incumbents lost their bid for reelection as they were upset in Tuesday’s primary election.
Ben Robertson defeated incumbent Dan Dinning to win the Republican nomination for the Boundary County Commission Zone 3 seat, 2,076 votes to 1,059 votes.
Robertson said the success of his campaign was going out and meeting with the community and speaking at every event he could.
He said he has a lot to learn between now and swearing in and that he will be asking as many questions as he can to get up to speed.
He thanked everyone for their support and promised to do the best he can for the county’s residents.
Dinning was sworn in as commissioner in 2001. He wished the newly elected commissioners the best of luck.
Steve Fioravanti defeated incumbent Tim Bertling to win the Republican nomination for the Boundary County Commission Zone 2 seat, receiving 1,603 to Bertling's 1,524 votes.
Fioravanti said he knew it would be a highly contested race.
He said he has a lot of knowledge on state and federal issues, but will be using his time to research county issues and meet with department heads. If he wins the election in November, he looks forward to working with the other commissioners and tackling county issues together.
He attributed his success to his strong marketing campaign, a strong team of supporters, hard work and dedication.
Bertling said he felt he lost due to ideology not because of his track record. He hopes this does not become a trend for Boundary County.
He said he is more hands-on than past commissioners and had hoped to serve for more than two years.
He told the Bonners Ferry Herald that community members have asked him to run as a write-in on the November general election ballot.
“I’m very honored to represent the good people of Boundary County,” he said.
Chad Workman won the Republican nomination to be Boundary County's next coroner, defeating Richard G. Cowell IV, 2,214 votes to 476.
Incumbent County Clerk, Glenda Poston ran unopposed and received 2,462 votes.
Deputy Assessor Olivia Drake ran unopposed as county assessor and received 2,428 votes.
Deputy Treasurer Jennifer Economu ran unopposed as county treasurer and received 2,466 votes.
