Badger track sends 24 athletes to state

SPIRIT LAKE —- The Badgers stayed strong in the two-day 3A District Championship track meet, with both teams finishing in second place and 24 athletes qualifying for state.

A total of 13 boys and 11 girls qualified for state. Only the top four individuals in each event and the top two relays qualified. Both boys and girls took second at districts, with the girls team only losing to Timberlake by five points.

Charles Henslee, who took first in the 1600m, is returning to the state competition to defend his title.

Connor Alexander took second in the 3200m. The sprint medley relay team took first. The team includes Noah Walker, Cleo Henslee, Noah Bottcher and Charles Henslee.

Braeden Blackmore took first in the high jump and second in the 100m. Riley Petesch took second place in the triple jump.

Camille Ussher took first in the 800m. Mia Blackmore took second in the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.

Asha Abubakari qualified for state in all four of her events and is seeded first in the shot put. All four intermountain league girls are seeded 1-4 in the shot put.

The state competition will take place in Middleton at Eagle High School.

TEAM SCORES WOMEN — 1. Timberlake 131, 2. Bonners Ferry 126, 3. Coeur d’Alene Charter 49, 4. Priest River 42, 5. Kellogg 22.

Shot put — Dillion Mai; High Jump — Braeden Blackmore; Pole vault — Aiden Jacobson; Long jump – Aiden Beggerly; Triple Jump — Riley Petesch, Levi Bonnell and Asher Williams.

GIRLS

400m — Sydney Hinthorn; 800m — Camille Ussher and Brooke Petesch; 1600m — Sydney Beckle; 3200m — Sydney Beckle; 100m hurdles — Mia Blackmor and Sierra Petesch; 300m hurdles — Mia Blackmore; 4X200m relay team; 4X400m relay team; sprint medley relay team.

Shot put — Asha Abubakari and Helene Rae; Discus — Asha Abubakari and Helene Rae;

High Jump — Markynn Pluid; Pole Vault — Morgan Burt and Leah Moellmer; Long jump — Asha Abubakari and Brooke Petesch; Triple Jump — Asha Abubakari and Brooke Petesch.
