STATE TRACK MEET: Abubarkari and Burt take first
MIDDLETON — Badger track and field sent 24 athletes to 3A state competition at Eagle High School May 20-21, and came away with two state champions and several top finishers.
Morgan Burt took first place in the pole vault at 10 feet. Burt initially tied in the pole vault, but since she made the vault in fewer attempts than her opponent, she finished first.
“She did a great job getting used to a new pole to increase her height,” said head coach Travis Hinthorn.
Asha Abubakari won the discus on her last throw and beat the competition by two inches.
“Girls had a great day on the first day because of our field events,” Hinthorn said. “We were tied for second at the beginning of the second day and were in fourth until the last event, the 4X400 relay.”
Since Weiser won the relay, they jumped up the fourth place spot and forced the Badgers girl’s track to take fifth and miss out on hardware. Only the top four teams receive trophies.
Helene Rae finished fourth in shot put and improved her personal record multiple times in the past five meets. Camille Ussher took fourth in the 800m with a new PR.
For the boys, Charles Henslee took fourth in the 1600m. Last year, he was the state champion.
The Boys sprint medley team finished fourth with a time of 3:43.76. Snake River took first with a time of 3:37.99.
